The Call of the Hour

Why I Share

Since July 2018, I have been enriched spiritually through the ministry of Dr. Faith Wokoma. Finding her was an answered prayer. A year prior to this, I had begun feeling stuck, growing impatient with myself professionally, spiritually, and emotionally, striving to make things happen. The other problem was that I no longer was growing in my current church home. Honestly, I felt as though I had outgrown the teaching there. And I do not mean this in a mean or prideful way. I am simply being honest. I began studying things out more intensely and got back to the habit of journaling what God was showing me.

One day standing in my bedroom, I cried out to God with these words: “Father, I want to know the deep things of You. I want to know You more. Show me the deeper things of you. Give me the understanding as you show me.” And He did! Every day since that prayer, I have experienced an awakening that I can’t shut up about. The reason I started a blog called “Faithful Melodies” is in response to what God called me to do years before, mind you, but fear stepped in and I hesitated to use my gift. But when things started happening to me that I could not explain, God answered my prayer and used the teaching of Dr. Faith (www.askdoctorfaith.com) to train me and give me that gentle nudge I needed to get started.

The Prayer Call

Part of the ministry of Dr. Faith includes an early Thursday morning weekly prayer call on which attendees from all over the world give ear and voices to. One of the prayer leaders, affectionately known as Mama Joyce and the mother of Dr. Faith, taught me how to pray effectively. Since that day in July 2018, I have attended, listened, learned, and participated in these calls.

Today’s call (January 17, 2019) was so powerful to me that I share the essence of it below. I also share the word that God spoke to me:

In my prayer call time this morning, prayers for those affected by this government shutdown came out. It made me think about what we are currently studying as a church, in I Corinthians 1-4. Those first 4 chapters are so rich with regard to relationship issues in divisions, quarrels, and disunity. Our government is in a disunified state in strife, selfishness, and greed. One person wants this, another that, and neither side is willing to listen to the other. Humility is lost on the proud because their ears are stopped up. That’s exactly what this shutdown has produced – stopped up ears. But more so, it has affected many who have gone without a paycheck. Many with college tuition and other living expenses that are going unmet. When we on the prayer call joined our voices in a collective, unified prayer to the Lord, before individual prayers went forth, the first words I declared out loud were, “Thank You for the filling up and the pouring out.” Those were just words coming from my mouth, not yet sure why I was praising with that sentiment, but I felt the power behind them. I didn’t know specifically what I was thanking God for. I just heard those words, “filling and pouring” and then spoke them. Then when individuals took turns praying for our government, I realized that it is us Saints who, because we are “filled up” with the Holy Spirit and the knowledge and even the revelation of mysteries only He gives (I Corinthians 2 & 14:25), can we pour it out to touch those around us.  And so, the need of the hour – or rather, the call of the hour – is for those who are affected by this shutdown AND for us who can do something. How can we help them? How can we pour out (to them) what we have been filled up to give?

I shared this with my husband when he came up with a plate of breakfast he made for me, as I was praying. He said, “I was just thinking the same thing when I was downstairs.” Confirmation in the Spirit.

I don’t know if you know anyone personally who is affected, but this is the hour to reach out and do something to meet the needs, even if it’s a gathering to pray if you don’t know anyone personally. But if there is someone you know personally, it’s time for us – the Saints – to rise up and share Christ, to share, show, and seed our support to those who are affected. There may be some who could use some money right now. There are many more who need a word from the Lord. What a great opportunity to prophesy into their lives! Let us rise up with the courage to share because even though there are many who know Christ, there are many more who only know of Him. But both groups of people who may have experienced anxiety, fear, worry, and gone into faithlessness or hopelessness, due to this shutdown, need to hear His words of hope from us.

So, let us pray that their hearts are pliable and receptive. Let us become more aware of His presence in our lives so that we may pour Him out. And, don’t forget that we are soldiers. Don’t forget that we have the armor on. Sometimes we do forget and then begin operating out of our strength. And that doesn’t lead to anywhere but to the land of frustration. Do you know why? The battle we fight is with the invisible who are in high places. It is a spiritual battle. What is happening in our government is a spiritual battle. We have been given the authority to cast out and tear down. But a lot of us don’t even know how to do that. A lot of us don’t understand the power of binding and loosing. We need to bind the spirit of selfishness and loose the Spirit of conviction in Jesus’ name! We need to speak this. Speak it right now out loud, right where you are! Don’t you know that a spoken word over a situation ignites the fire that will tear down a stronghold? We need to fight in the strength of the Lord. We need to learn to do this. Stop sitting and stand, my people, then rise! Let us pray for our own courage; let us hear (and be moved – cause that is what “to hear” means – thank you Lord for that revelation just now!) those same words God told Joshua (Joshua 1:9) and then move in the understanding of the following 3 scriptures (these were given by Mama Joyce):

  • Proverbs 17:11
  • Ephesians 6:10-12
  • 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (read the whole chapter but the highlight is on these 3 verses)

This is the word that was given to me this morning as I spent time in prayer.

  1. Thank you Phylis, I am so inspired by your action and words which are prayers! I want my heart to be moved to be more contemplative in Christ with everything!! As I read “When the Soul Listens”, it to confirms that both listening for God and trusted action to do His will go hand in hand. He entrusts me with the power and strength of theHis Holy Spirit to do the works He has orchestrated since the beginning of creation. To God be the Glory forever. Amen
