Proper Positioning is Everything

On July 5, 2019, it hit me that when we are not properly aligned, whether in business, in our career pursuits, or in spiritual growth, we will not be in a position to receive what belongs to us.

How did I come to receive this nugget of wisdom?

I had an experience with my husband’s healthcare reimbursement Visa (from his job) in which I couldn’t access the money to buy what I needed. What good is it to have a healthcare card whose benefits we cannot FULLY access?! This experience helped me see the importance of the word ‘position.’ This is what I say:

“To access what is rightfully yours, you must be sitting or set up in the right position.”

If you are familiar with an HSA or employer-sponsored healthcare account, you know the value of what I speak. The ability to pay for needed things like contacts, glasses, chiropractic care, and more is excellent with plans like these. However, when I am down to my last pair of contacts and go online to buy some only to have the card declined, it is baffling and frustrating that I couldn’t access the almost $600 on this card. Upon investigating the matter online through the employer-sponsored provider, I discovered my husband had enrolled in a plan that does not cover contact lenses. I thought, “Well, that’s silly when our family needs this covered.” The other two plans (an HSA and an FSA) and see that they cover just about everything. I thought, “Why didn’t he choose one of those better plans?” I called the 800 number on the back of the card, and the nice woman told me to change to another plan through the employer.  I thanked her and nudged my husband to do.

As I thought about this, I reflected on this wisdom: “To access what is rightfully yours, you have to be set up in the right position.” I meditated on Proverbs 31:25, too. A position rooted in strength and security will yield a bright future. I also saw the words of James when he says that faith without action is dead. Hmm.. some of us are walking dead.

Yet, my reflection caused me to question a few things about people in general as to why they miss out on receiving free money, a fringe benefit, scholarships, you name it:

  • Why do we give up when we don’t understand something?
  • Why don’t we invest in our growth?
  • why do we procrastinate in finding a solution to the problem?
  • Why are we so slow to move or not move when others who have gone before know how to get from point A to point B?
  • Why do we say things like, “I just don’t have the time,” or I don’t have the money”?
  • Why do we say, “Well, I couldn’t figure it out, so I just gave up”?

And I include myself in this because I’ve said all this! And missed out on that free money, a fringe benefit…. You get the picture. But no more!

The answer brings me to the word “position,” which has many definitions:

  1. A place
  2. A particular way something is placed or arranged
  3. A situation or set of circumstances
  4. A person’s point of view or attitude toward something

Focus on the last definition. How you think about something is critical in being set up to receive what belongs to you. Think about why you aren’t receiving it. Check the motive of your action. Ponder the way you’ve been going after something you desire. If you haven’t received what rightfully belongs to you, ask yourself, “Am I set up in the right position?”

Too many Christians have access to what is rightfully ours, but we don’t ask for it for whatever reason. Or we don’t move accurately. Or, we won’t set about to make changes to acquire it. We don’t move. Fear. Hurts and past wounds. Improper training or teaching led to ignorance. Unforgiveness. All these things have you bound in a perpetual cycle of annual same. Well, it’s no wonder there is no access!  And it’s no wonder there is no growth! The position has everything to do with your heart, who it is aligned with, and how it is aligned.

And so, what is rightfully yours sits in an account with your name on it, but it won’t be released until you get up and do something. You have to move to adjust it. What does that look like for you? A reshaping of your attitude? Reaching out for help?

Stop what you are doing now – IT ISN’T WORKING – and learn to acquire what is already yours. Stop sitting and stand!

I’m eager to hear about the change in your movement. How did it release what rightfully belongs to you?
