The Spirit Knows

On the morning of September 7th, 2018, I had a cry in my heart, but it was hard for me to lean in. The words weren’t coming, so I began to sing. Out of my mouth came a simple melody accompanied by words of praise. I sat down at the piano and discovered my song to be in D Major, the upbeat starting from the 5th below the tonic. It all came together.

The points I gathered from this experience are:

  • When the words in your heart seem lost, or you find it hard to press into prayer, praise! The Spirit knows and intercedes on our behalf in our weaknesses, according to Romans 8:26-27. I didn’t know what prayer to offer, but I knew my heart was burning to pray. The Spirit interceded with praise words coming out of my mouth.  Lift the name of Jesus in those moments. Use Psalm 136 or another praise psalm to help. Try praying through the names of God. This practice has been excellent for me!
  • The enemy wants you to give up, leaning in and pressing through. He’d rather have you be quiet and pout about why you think you can’t pray. Please do not give in to his demands. Praise God instead.
  • A breakthrough will occur when you keep pushing. Yes, you will feel like you don’t want to, like you are tired, and want to give up. But you have to push through. Then you will see what God has birthed inside of you. For me that September 7th morning, it was a song of praise in D Major that flowed freely from my heart, out of my mouth, and into my fingers as they lay and then emotionally moved across the keys of my piano.

  1. Amazing! You allowed God to use you instead of the enemy. I have felt this way, thank you for the tip!

  2. Congratulations on your blog. Thank you. Good first post as it well set as a foundation and reminder that God is always speaking to us and if we persevere to push through as you stated, then the revelation come. Your gift of writing is beneficial to many as it/you can be used to encourage and/or challenge people towards God. That is a good thing. Continue to do this great work and looking forward to reading more., so much more. This is just the tip of the iceberg. And, yes to praying the names of God for he is who he needs to be for you/me/all of us at that moment….He is the I AM.
